Projection Mapping for Events: Process, Surfaces, Content, and Cost Factors

Surface geometry, brightness, lensing, throw, positions, ambient light, playback, rigging, power, access, content workflow, and schedule must support the concept.
Begin with surface and viewing conditions
Document dimensions, material, color, reflectivity, texture, obstructions, audience angles, ambient light, desired image size, and projector positions. A clean photograph is useful, but measured drawings and an on-site survey reduce much more uncertainty.
Design projection and playback together
Projector brightness, resolution, lens, overlap, orientation, mounting, signal transport, media server, output format, control, and redundancy are interdependent. Selecting them as a system prevents incompatible assumptions.
Give content a stable canvas
Content creators need a pixel map, aspect, safe areas, masks, test patterns, codecs, frame rate, color expectations, delivery dates, and a review workflow. Generative visuals, live feeds, and interactive content need additional performance and latency testing.
Understand the price drivers
Scale, complexity, ambient light, projector count, specialty lenses, rigging, weather, playback, content, labor, schedule, travel, venue access, and redundancy drive cost. A smaller surface with excellent control can outperform a larger idea with inadequate brightness and rehearsal.
